Global Health Student Groups for Undergraduates

Globemed

  • GlobeMed, which originated at Northwestern University in 2006, is a network of university students, which partner with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of the impoverished. The Northwestern University Globemed Chapter is actively involved in a partnership with the HOPE Centre Clinic in Ho, Ghana. Additionally, every year, Globemed holds the Globemed National Conference on Northwestern University's Evanston campus.

The Global Engagement Summit

  • The Global Engagement Summit (GES) is a five-day international training conference for students committed to global change. Created in 2005, the summit was first organized by Northwestern's Center for Global Engagement. The summit brings together student delegates to focus on understanding the challenges and opportunities for their engagement, develop their skillsets, and connect with like-minded peers from around the world.

Engineers for a Sustainable World

  • Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) mobilizes engineers through education, training, and practical action, building collaborative partnerships to meet the needs of current and future generations. The Northwestern University chapter has been actively involved with several engineering projects including wind power in Nicaragua and water pumps the Phillipines.

Rotaract

  • Derived from "Rotary in Action," the organization emphasizes a strong commitment to promoting world understanding and peace through the development of leadership among youth. Today, there are more than 7,500 Rotary-supported Rotaract clubs with more than 175,000 members in 164 countries around the world. More than a community service club, Rotaract is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. This effort starts at the community level, but it knows no limits in its outreach.

Northwestern Community Development Corps (NCDC)

  • NCDC is a student-run organization that seeks to engage students in community development at Northwestern, in Evanston, and throughout Chicago. NCDC promotes civic engagement through direct service, social awareness, and advocacy. NCDC offers an interactive guide to volunteering sites in the area. Visitors can search for volunteer locations based on proximity with a wide range of themes. Site information and contact information for the NCDC site leaders are included.

Logal Engagement Opportunities for Graduate Students (Medicine)

Chicago Community Engagement Program

  • Family and Community Medicine's Chicago Community Engagement Program (CCEP) welcomes Feinberg students interested in community health activity and supports them with guidance and resources.

New Life Volunteer Clinic (NLVS)

  • NLVS has a student-run free health clinic on the Northside of Chicago that is open every Saturday from 10am-2pm. With the collaboration of physicians, residents, and medical students from UIC, Northwestern, University of Chicago, Rush, and Chicago Medical School, the clinic provides free basic healthcare to the underprivileged and uninsured population living in the Chicago area. The free clinic offers services including physical examinations, lab tests, EKGs, x-rays, and medications for patients. In addition to this though, unlike many other free and insurance-based medical facilities, it provides preventive healthcare! Volunteers educate patients on an individual level about a variety of health topics based on the patient's interest or medical history.

NU-AID

  • Northwestern University Alliance for International Development. NU-AID strives to improve the health of the communities they serve, in Chicago and internationally- immediately, by providing primary medical care to underserved populations, and for the foreseeable future, by engaging in public health educational initiatives.
