Belize - Hillside Health Care International
Hillside Health Care International (HHCI) partners with Feinberg's Center for Global Health and operates as a faith-based facility providing health care to an underserved population near Eldridgeville, Belize. The clinic accepts short-term medical volunteers and has a medical education curriculum with objectives that include the appreciation of cost-effective approaches to medical care in a resource constrained setting, development of team-building skills, and recognizing prevalent cross-cultural and underserved issues in primary care, among many others.
Hillside Health Care International is located approx, 5 miles from the small town of Punta Gorda, in southern Belize. The organization provides basic primary care through the central clinic, home visits, mobile health units, and through community outreach programs. The central clinic consists of 3 exam rooms, an office, and pharmacy space. Clinic health staff frequently participate in community outreach programs such as: health education in villages and schools, village health needs assessments, provision of transportation and service coordination among partnering facilities and programs. In the past, Hillside has welcomed volunteers with a variety of different skills including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, occupational and physical therapists, physician assistants, dentists, and students.
